Discover the world of Hara Athanasopoulou
The roots
Hara Athanasopoulou is a multidisciplinary artist working with textiles, drawing and sculpture. Her practice examines how material traditions and handcraft techniques shape personal identity and preserve memory. Inspired by the stories embedded in fabrics and by nature, she reflects on processes of growth, change and transformation. Inspired by female makers, including her grandmother, she reclaims textile-making from its traditional role as a household craft, transforming it into a medium that documents resilience, care, and creative agency.
Her work is rooted in a detailed and methodical process. Each stitch or knot is a deliberate act that documents labor, time, and attention, highlighting the care and craftsmanship embedded in these materials. Through her work, Athanasopoulou transforms textiles into works that reflect personal stories, the passage of time and the resilience of those who shaped these materials before her.
Athanasopoulou graduated with a cum laude in Fine Arts from the Royal Academy of Arts and was awarded the Jan Roede Award in 2024. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in the Netherlands and internationally. She has participated in prominent art fairs and continues to develop her practice through research-based projects, installations, and collaborations with galleries, cultural institutions and fellow artists.
